Meet-In UK & Ireland, Inaugral event a huge success.
The very first Meet-In UK and Ireland event has been declared a runaway success by both buyers and
suppliers. Fifty-three delegates enjoyed two days of intensive one-to-one meetings, networking sessions and
fabulous dining and entertainment at the amazing Europe Hotel in Killarney Ireland. The Meet-In team have
already booked next year’s event to be held on the 6th - 8th July 2011 at the Five Star Carton House Hotel near
Dublin.
The Meet-In concept presents the perfect opportunity for suppliers of high quality
conference and hotel space, unusual venues and services, to meet with prestigious
event organisers who place substantial meetings and conference business.
On the first night delegates enjoyed a superb meal with magical entertainment from
John Hotowka and a stunning, authentic performance from Irish musical phenomenon
Liam O’Connor.
The next day saw intense, productive meetings
and networking activity, and a hilarious
(unfortunately very wet) treasure hunt
through the wonderful surrounding scenery.
The day was rounded off with the Kerry
Convention Bureau hosted a trip to the
Aghadoe Heights, and a prestigious a la carte gala dinner at the
Cellar One restaurant and cocktails at the Lane Café Bar.
The Irish hospitality lasted right to the end – with the Cork
Convention Bureau providing much needed Irish coffee and cake at
the airport just prior to departure!
The event was unanimously well-received with delegates discovering the benefits offered by the Irish
experience, and Irish hotels and venues able to show their unique advantage.
Suppliers, too, were delighted.
Meet-In Managing Director Helen Tremlett is already looking forward to next year in Ireland. ‘I met some
wonderful people and venues that I am going to place future business with like The KClub, Radisson Blu and
Choice Hotels. Next year we hope to be bigger and better. It will be held at the beautiful Carton House Hotel
on 6th - 8th July - we are already getting interest and anyone booking before October will get a 10% discount –
so get in touch now!’
Conflict of interest
Meet In UK is a well-established brand of networking facilitators with a number of successful events already
completed in England during 2009 and 2010. We have recently transferred our unique approach to the Irish
events market and have adapted the name to reflect the locality – advertising as Meet In Ireland.
However, it has now been brought to our attention that the ‘Meet In Ireland’ name and identity is already
being used by Failte Ireland – the Irish Tourist Board – for their own event each year.
We are very keen to ensure there is no confusion or conflict of interest, and while it was too late to change the
name for the 2010 event, we will make sure we indicate that we are neither part nor partners of the Failte
Ireland event. They have kindly said they will support our project and we hope to work together with them
more formally in the future. We trust there has not been any confusion caused thus far and would stress that
any similarity was co-incidental and not in any way intentional.
In future we will refer to our event as ‘Meet in UK and Ireland’ in order to avoid any confusion.
Venue Finding
The Meet in UK venues for 2011 are yet to be selected, several cities are currently considering bidding for an
opportunity to host the planned 2011 forums, and there is still time for tourist authorities and conference
bureaus to bid for the event to come to their area.
Delegates and suppliers interested in attending any future ‘Meet the Buyer’ forums should e-mail helen@meet-
in.co.uk or visit: www.meet-in.co.uk.
I really enjoyed the very first Meet in Ireland which was held in Killarney in July. The quality of
the buyers was excellent and the format and timings of the event really worked. With the
number of buyers present, I felt I had the chance to meet and network with each
and everyone of them during the course of the programme , which was a great
result and of course the entertainment on each evening was top class. Really
looking forward to Meet In UK in Torquay later this year. Well
Done to all”
Deidre O’Brien, Director of Sales at Carton House
a great mix of formal, informal and social networking at a fantastic location,’ while Robert Kipps
of UK Trade and Investment remarked that, ‘it struck a balance between work and leisure
activities and ….gave us all a chance to get a feel for the area,’.
Elliot Stroud of the Homeless World Cup
The Meet-In team represented the product in Ireland to a very high standard,
from the venue chosen to accommodate, catering, team building activities and
meeting structure. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for future business!
